MSHPA is committed to ensuring this summer camp is possible for local children—an immersive program where California State Parks staff bring Monterey’s stories to life. With limited State funding, this experience depends on MSHPA fundraising to ensure cost is never a barrier for families.
This special summer program invites day campers to step into Monterey’s rich cultural history and breathtaking natural spaces—discovering stories, places, and experiences that spark curiosity and wonder.
Throughout the week, campers wander through historic buildings and colorful gardens, learning through hands-on activities that bring the past to life: period games and play, traditional toys and crafts, foods, songs, dances, nature exploration, and lively guided tours. Each day highlights the diverse cultures that shaped one of California’s most storied towns, while also letting campers enjoy the vibrant Monterey we know today.
Home base is the Pacific House, but the adventure reaches far and wide—into the Custom House, Whaling Station, First Theater, Larkin House, and Stevenson House. Beyond the park, campers experience the living heart of our community with visits to Colton Hall, the Cooper-Molera Adobe, Del Monte Beach, and even a magical whale-watching trip.
