Guided House Tours

Stevenson House and Larkin House

​Monterey State Historic Park is excited to offer tours of these historic buildings.

Tours are 45 minutes, first-come, first-served and limited to 10 people.

 

The Stevenson House was a temporary home of the world-famous writer Robert Louis Stevenson in 1879.

Built for Thomas Oliver Larkin in 1835, the Larkin House is a two-story adobe brick building that is known for being one of the area’s best examples of Monterey Colonial architecture.

In August of 1879, Robert Louis Stevenson arrived in Monterey, changing his life and the history of Monterey. In commemoration of this event, join us in exploring Stevenson's later life, traveling the South Seas and settling in Samoa.

Hear stories of' his time in Samoa and see objects, photos and artwork of his life and family.
