California's First Theatre & Casa Del Oro Garden
Monterey State Historic Park
Celebrate the inaugural First Theatre Fest on Saturday, August 31, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the beautifully restored First Theatre in Monterey State Historic Park. This exciting event marks the reopening of California’s First Theatre, a significant historical landmark that has undergone extensive restoration. Enjoy a full day of festivities featuring local vendors offering unique arts and crafts, allowing you to take home handmade treasures. Capture memories with a portrait by North Coast Tintypes, using the historic tintype photography technique from the era when the theater was built in 1846.
Food enthusiasts can indulge in diverse dining options from several vendors, including the Peninsula's newest bagel purveyor, Silverstein’s Delicatessen. Complimentary refreshments will be available in the historic saloon, providing a taste of hospitality in a beautifully restored setting.
Entertainment will be a highlight of the day with scheduled performances in the historic theater. Enjoy an interactive poetry performance by Monterey County Poet Laureate Rachelle Escamilla, live music from local bands, a set by local DJ Gwynneth Alldis, and a performance by the band Yeobo. California State Parks will also host a variety of hands-on activities for all ages, ensuring fun for the whole family.
The First Theatre Fest is free to the public, offering a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together and enjoy a day of culture, history, and entertainment in a truly historic setting. Don’t miss this special celebration at the First Theatre in Monterey State Historic Park!
