Two of CITA’s most popular performing groups have new venues this year.
Azahar Flamenco de Monterey has been a highlight of Christmas in the Adobes for more than a decade. Their lively and colorful performances are a counterpoint to more sedate holiday music, with a variety of authentic Spanish dances such as sevillanas, rumba, gypsy tango, and fandango. In past years, they have been hosted by the Monterey Civic Club at the House of Four Winds, an 1830s adobe. This year, because of construction there, they will perform at California’s First Theatre—a first for both the theatre and the dancers.
MPC Theatre Arts, from Monterey Peninsula College, was a hit at the First Theatre in August but will move to Stevenson House for CITA. They are fresh off their run of Thornton Wilder’s classic Our Town. To celebrate the holidays, students and faculty will perform segments from Christmas-themed plays and sing classic holiday songs. Also featured will be local singer-songwriters: The Jinxes, Lily Robnett, and Todd Siff.
